The Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed delaying vehicle emission standards and extending deadlines for PFAS chemical limits, while the Department of Health and Human Services has revived a division previously shuttered by the former president.
Podcast hosts are currently re-evaluating the durability of these past policies. On Hard Fork, Casey Newton noted that the Trump administration moved quickly to strip the US AI Safety Institute of its influence, observing: "This was a group within the Commerce Department that was set up under the Biden administration. The Trump administration came in, and basically they didn't like that this was, you know, they, what they considered sort of a bunch of doomers."
The skepticism isn't limited to technology policy. On The Ezra Klein Show, Ezra Klein scrutinized the failure of the Housing First initiative, questioning the efficacy of the framework championed by the former White House. Klein pointedly asked: "The Biden administration largely embraced Housing First as the dominant federal framework... the unsheltered population has continued to grow. What went wrong?"
As these reversals gain momentum, the focus will likely shift toward whether any of these Biden administration programs can survive the current wave of executive rescissions or if they will be scrubbed from the federal record entirely.
