Community leaders and George Floyd's family gathered at the Hennepin County Government Center on May 13 to demand that Netflix pull a comedy segment from The Roast of Kevin Hart that made light of his death.
On The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God dismissed the premise of the joke entirely. "Like George Floyd died at the hands of the police because of systemic racism. I don't see the funny in that." he argued.
The backlash highlights a sharp divide over where comedy should draw its boundaries. Charlamagne doubled down on his stance that some subjects are strictly off-limits. "I don't agree with people joking about violent, tragic deaths. I don't care if it's George Floyd, Charlie Kirk, Sheryl Underwood's husband killing himself." he stated.
As the pressure mounts on the streaming giant to issue a formal apology, the conversation is shifting toward how the George Floyd Foundation continues to protect his legacy from public trivialization.
