Huawei has shifted its legal strategy in the United Kingdom after withdrawing patent infringement claims against TP-Link at the Unified Patent Court. The company is now focusing on FRAND rate-setting proceedings regarding Wi-Fi 6 technology.
While the legal maneuvering unfolds, podcast hosts remain focused on the company's hardware dominance. On All-In, Chamath Palihapitiya argued that the U.S. must limit chip proliferation to ensure Nvidia stays ahead, noting, "We do not want to give enough oxygen for Huawei to then all of a sudden emerge and have a version of a chip that works."
The skepticism is even more pronounced on The Joe Rogan Experience, where Joe Rogan highlighted long-standing security concerns, stating, "We've had to kick Huawei out of the country because it turns out that a lot of their equipment could be used for spying."
The tone is decidedly lighter on Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, where Mo Rocca poked fun at the company's innovation in electric vehicle headlights, quipping, "Chinese electric vehicles are now capable of projecting full-color movies from their headlights. Wow-we, sorry, I mean Huawei-"
Despite ongoing geopolitical friction and restrictive trade policies, Huawei continues to lead the China smartphone market. Watchers will be looking to see if the company's expansion into new product categories and European retail initiatives can offset its exclusion from Western infrastructure projects.
