Lupa Systems, the investment firm led by James Murdoch, announced a deal to acquire the Vox Media Podcast Network for over $300 million. As part of the restructuring, the company is splitting in two, with the podcast division joining a new entity under the Lupa Systems umbrella, while brands like Eater and The Verge will operate independently.
Before the acquisition news broke, the network had been aggressively expanding its content library. On May 11, it launched "Create or Destroy" with Seth Matlins, followed shortly by the May 19 debut of "In the Booth with Babish," a collaboration between Andrew Rea and Eater.
Hosts remain focused on the output despite the corporate shuffle. On Pivot, Kara Swisher continues to frame the network as a primary home for her work, noting, "This is Pivot from New York Magazine and the Vox Media Podcast Network." The immediate reaction across the industry has been one of wait-and-see, as observers track whether the Lupa Systems ownership will prioritize aggressive monetization or maintain the network's current editorial identity.
